Ohio joining the sane and becoming a Right to Work state?

Pjmedia is reporting that there is a signature petition out there right now to change the state constitution to become a Right to work state. The legislature would state in part

  • “No law, rule, agreement, or arrangement shall require any person or employer to become or remain a member of a labor organization.”
  • “No law, rule, agreement, or arrangement shall require, directly or indirectly, as a condition of employment, any person or employer, to pay or transfer any dues, fees, assessments, other charges of any kind, or anything else of value, to a labor organization, or third party in lieu of the labor organization.”

It's possible I guess. Although seeing how the last attempt at curtailing unions went down in a smoldering pile in Ohio turned out I'm not that sure.

PJmedia believes that waiting on this until 2013 might work out better in regard to the POTUS election so that there isn't a crazed union movement getting people out to vote to shoot this down and ultimately giving Obama Ohio.

While I believe that any attempt on anything reducing union power would be met with screams and alot of money in ads I'm not completely sold that this wouldn't pass. The reason is this doesn't take away the current union negotiating capability. Granted it would cost them some money in dues and we all know how they react to that concept. But I believe this falls closer along the lines of the Individual Mandate amendment that did pass in being simply about personal choice and freedom.

Of course we at The Handbook reserve the right to retract everything said here if proven to be wrong, or claim that it was completely taken out of context.

Enlightening speech on C-Span

Sitting at work yesterday one of the few channels that I have available to me is C-Span. Most of the time it takes about 10 minutes before I'm bored and have on. However a speech that was given by Congressman Rob Woodhall (R-GA 7th) I found extremely interesting.

Most of what I found interesting was the back and forth between him and Rep Steve King (R-IA 5th) about tax rates and hidden taxes. We'll get to that in a minute though.

Could Romney lose NH?

In my sporadic watching of news lately apparently there was a seismic shift that I can honestly say that I didn't see coming. When the Cain problems started I wasn't sure who would pick up his supporters but to be honest I never really thought that it could be Newt. Turns out I was probably pretty wrong.

According to a poll from Magellan Strategies in NH, Newt and Romney are now both virtually tied. With Mittens having 29% and Newt right behind at 27%. This is pretty impressive. I still want to see at least one more poll show this just to back it up, but if it's true. Oh the happiness. Mittens entire campaign I believe has always been to have a decent showing in Iowa then storm through NH, and build that air of invincibility. Well if he loses both or just barely covers in NH. Then what?

Combine this with the polls that came out showing Newt in or near the front in IA and you have something that I'm sure the Romney campaign never saw coming. Let's be honest here, none of us really saw Newt's rise coming. His baggage is suppose to be what prevents him from winning right. Well maybe this idea he has of coming out with all of it and laying it on the table is working. Now we get to see what happens when the oppo research really kicks into high gear on him.

Personally I think that the fav/unfav on Newt is pretty impressive in this poll. 59/31 with only 10 saying they don't have an opinion.

One other thing. Only Ron Paul, Newt, and Mitt Romney have favorable ratings. Everyone else is underwater, with the worst being Rick Perry at 21/66/12.

Obligatory,,, Bullets flyin at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

According to a story on Fox News two bullets were found by the Secret Service at the White House. One had broken a glass before the safety features kicked in. The other was found outside, although it doesn't specify if it was found in the wall or anything like that. So I guess the slug was just laying on the ground or something.

Wearing US Flag T-shirt Offensive and Banned....... IN AMERICA!!

Apparently when I didn't keep up over the last week or so I missed something pretty important. At some point a school principal decided that a t-shirt with the American Flag was offensive, or could be offensive on Cinco-de-Mayo. So he banned US Flag shirts on that day. WTF?

And there is a judge out there dumb enough to agree with him.

Hermain Cains Fall?

Herman Cain apparently doesn't like us here at The Handbook. Since our backing of him he seems to have gone out of his way to completely destroy his candidacy. Or maybe it's the Democratic Machine that hates us. Then again it could all possibly be coincidence.

Apologies from the Handbook

I usually try to make sure at least something gets put up here everyday. Over the last few days I've been a little busy with work and everything else and this just fell by the wayside. For all three of you who read this we at The Handbook apologize.

Add to that I really just haven't felt like doing it lately and you get what you have since the last time I posted which is nothing. But have no fear I am in the process of getting some stuff up. And soon I'll talk about what is appearing to become a disastrous backing of Herman Cain, the fact that we've proved what we always knew that congress considers themselves above the laws the pass for the rest of us, and a sudden rise from the person that I thought could make a good candidate but had too much baggage in Newt Gingrich. Oh and Perry's failure during the debate to remember the DOE and how that probably killed his chances.

So stay tuned some things will be up soon.

Horror in Happy Valley

For those of you who dont know we here at The Handbook are what you could call football fanatics. College football being no exception. While our hearts here are always behind LSU, the news coming out of Penn State over the last few days is absolutely horrifying.

For those of you who don't know Jerry Sandusky used to be the defensive coordinator and heir apparent to Joe Paterno, the winningist coach in college football history. Then this Sunday the news broke that he had molested at least 9 young boys in the last decade or so. The biggest problem for Penn State is that at least one of the attacks on a 10 year old boy took place in the locker room on campus. This was also witnessed by one of the graduate assistants named Mike McQueary who then decided to simply call his father, and leave the boy on his own while being raped by a 50 year old pedophile. He later reported this to Paterno who felt his only obligation was to report it to his boss. The problem is that this took place in 2002 and as the grand jury report states:

“a naked boy… whose age he estimated to be ten years old, with his hands up against the wall [of a shower], being subjected to anal intercourse by a naked Sandusky.”  After discussing with his father what he had witnessed, McQueary “went to Paterno’s home, where he reported what he had seen.”

As a father and a human being I could never imagine seeing that and walking away. Something doesn't add up there. Maybe its my morals or upbringing or the fact that I have a soul but I could never live with myself knowing I could have stopped that and didn't.

Exit question: Not saying there is any proof of this but McQueary went from being an unpaid Graduate Assistant to a paid Assistant the following year, and is now the wide receivers coach. Funny business maybe? Could he have been told to shut up when he noticed that police action wasn't coming? Questions like this need to be answered and answered now.

Issa stands up for 2nd Amendment

“When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.” - Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826), US Founding Father, drafted the Declaration of Independence, 3rd US President

I just read this on Townhall, where MSNBC analyst and Huffpo columnist decides that of all the other rights protected by the Constitution that the 2nd amendment isn't as important as the others that are listed in there. What she, and quite frankly all other liberals, fail to realize is that without the 2nd amendment the others aren't really that useful either. Once you have taken away the armed citizenry then there really is no fear of gov to do away with the rest of them either. Don't believe me? Ask Germany about 1936.

Why do we do this to ourselves?

Four years ago I wrote a blog on Townhall that I kept up with for about a total of 45 minutes. I have since beaten that record here. Thank you to both of you reading this.

Now four years ago remember we had about 400 people running for office it seemed and there was no way to figure out who anyone was, and the ones we knew none of us wanted. In the end we ended up with John McCain. Gee thanks guys. To everyone who believes that our current practice of picking our nominee is a good idea, please go run your head into a wall a couple dozen times. That may sound harsh but every 4 years or so that's basically what we do as conservatives. We allow a couple of selected states "cough NH, IA, SC cough" to decide who our presidential nominee is going to be. To say that I hate this process would be like saying that I only have a mild dislike of everything liberal.

UPDATED: Newest Charge against Herman Cain

I was originally going to just make this an update to the previous post about Gloria Allred and the presser scheduled for today, however I felt it deserved its own. CNN has the story and video here, while The Hill has the story here. With this one you get a face and some actual details. At first glance it doesn't look good for the Cain campaign.

Percentage of people angry with Gov higher than with Bush (I), Carter, or Ford

80% of people responding in the ABC/WAPO poll said that they were either dissatisfied or down right angry with the government. Just to put this in perspective the number for Jimmy Carter was only 77% so theres something that Obama has Carter beat at. Although I'm not sure that's exactly the place that he wanted to beat that particular president at. In fact other than Carters previous record of down right pissed offness shown by the American people George H.W. Bush was at 72%, and Gerald Ford could only muster up a 71% hatred even with the Vietnam war and pardoning Nixon.

Shocking,, $33 bil high speed rail plan cost more than advertised

Apparently the same people who did the unemployment numbers for the Obama administration did the cost estimate on what it would cost to build a high speed rail way from LA to SF. Originally this would cost $33 billion. Turns out it would actually cost more than 3 times times that,  98.5 billion is the new estimate, and it would be opened 13 years late.

Well its about time. I almost lost my bet.

Shockingly it has taken Gloria Allred over a week to find someone to trot out in front of cameras to claim that they were also part of the latest bru ha ha, but rest assured she has finally found one. Allegedly she has a fourth woman that will actually come out and publicly state that she was also sexually harassed by Herman Cain.

Is it true? Possibly, Ill know more once I see the press conference, and or a transcript of said press conference. For the worst possible spin on it we go right to MSNBC.

For your enjoyment.. WH says ET doesn't exist

I've read a few stories on this now and while it ain't exactly hard hitting ground breaking news, well, it is humorous to think that someone a) actually formulated a response to this and b) that the people who signed this petition actually believed somewhere deep inside that the answer would be anything other than this.

For your viewing pleasures, Michelle Malkin, Hot Air, USA Today.

I'm sure there are more out there, and if I cared enough I could probably go find at least one site spouting about how the gov is lying about ET being on earth. OK  you got me.. I went searching and I came across this. Seems no point to even question now. We are definitely not alone.

Then again. What do we know. We here at The Handbook are just hoping you will read the ramblings and come back for more.

The DNC Convention vs the Laws of NC

Just in case anyone had thought that the DNC had decided to maybe lay off pushing their anti-business pro union down anyones throat they thought they could.. Well no such luck.

Apparently the DNC forgot to check the laws in NC before they awarded Charlotte the convention for this year. Actually more likely is they knew the laws exactly and wanted to see how many businesses they could get to union up due to a chance to get some extra business in such a crappy economy.

So just remember folks we here at The Handbook want you to always remember. When there is a D at the end of the name I assure you its not YOU they are looking out for.

Fast and Furious vs. 2nd Amendment

" A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, and the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." 2nd Amendment

Part of what makes the case of Fast and Furious, the gun walking plot developed by ATF, State Dept, FBI, DOJ, and every other group of initials we can come up with is the questions about what exactly the purpose of the scheme was. For those of you who don't know about F&F, it was a program that allowed over 2000 guns to be "walked" across the Mexican border, mostly to the Sinola drug cartel.

Voter Fraud in FL

We here at The Handbook try not to link to the same site to many times in one day, because frankly they aren't linking to us (although if they even knew we existed maybe that would help..) either way.

Here is further proof that the left is a bunch of liars and the voter fraud we all know happens.. is well.. happening...

UPDATED: Hermain Cains Problems

After the weekend we here at The Handbook had picking college and pro football games we should have known that openly supporting a candidate would probably doom them from the jump. Turns out we aren't completely paranoid.

Now the question becomes, are the allegations true, misconstrued, or completely fabricated. Well apparently there was a NDA signed by both of the women who were supposedly sexually harassed by Hermain Cain. He not surprisingly has come out and said everything is completely false. What else can he do come out and say, "Yup i did it, sorry bout that" cause that wouldn't have went over very well. Although denying it and have it turn out to be true would probably be even worse.

So the second question becomes where did this come from. Politicos source wasn't named and probably isn't coming forward any time soon. Redstate believes that it came from the Romney campaign since he's the only one so far that has shown a willingness to bring something like this out to muddy up an opponent. However Cain hasn't taken much support from Mittens and its not like they are going after the same demographic inside of the GOP anyway. However with our complete distrust and dislike of all things Romney we wouldn't be surprised. Question becomes though if it is proven to be Romney that shoveled this out and it turns out to be false accusations does it hurt Romney. My guess is no, since the people that are backing him are probably the same people that were backing him in 08 and would just call it oppo research.

Next comes the Perry campaign. While it hasn't proven itself to be involved in such things publicly so far Hot Air isn't so sure that it's Mittens and also claims that a witness is has come forward. Seems more likely since the support that Cain has garnered seems to have mostly come from the Perry campaign. They are both going after the social and fiscal con inside the GOP. Of course that could still leave Bachmann and Santorum, but I doubt if either is spending the little money they are bringing in on oppo research like this.

For a palate cleaner Cain is still showing strong support in both Iowa and SC. Does it hold up? I don't know. If the one female is allowed out of her NDA and has something along the lines of a blue dress to prove it all happened the way its been reported then I think Cain is sunk. Of course if this doesn't come out until after he has the nomination sewn up then, well O gets 4 more to ruin everything that is America.

Until proof comes out that he is actually guilty of this and that each of these women weren't paid just to go away on frivolous claims we here at The Handbook will continue our support of the Cain candidacy, that being said if the claims prove to be true, well..

Update: Apparently a third woman has come forward claiming that she was invited back to Cains corporate apartment. To say this looks bad is an understatement however this woman decided not to file the suit back when she knew about the other two already settling their cases. So if this really is true then obviously it wasn't money she was after.

This is from NBC News via the AP

The unidentified woman never filed a complaint but said she considered it, according to the AP. The behavior was characterized as "aggressive" and "unwanted."
The woman spoke to AP only on condition of anonymity, saying she feared losing her current job and the possibility of damage to her reputation. According to the AP, she said that Cain had told her that he had confided to colleagues how attractive she was and extended an invitation to his corporate apartment outside work.
NBC News has not verified her claims.

I know shocking I would read NBC news but I was looking for the worst possible spin of the story.

Week 8

For those of you who know us here at The Handbook, watching the Saints game today made us realize why is probably better for all of our health to not watch them any more. Maybe my uncles Dr. is on to something here.

Consider this an open thread for anyone who wants to comment.
